Chennai 600028 is a Tamil-language sports comedy franchise created by Venkat Prabhu, centered on a street cricket team from a Chennai suburb and the friendships, love, and rivalries among its members. It began with Chennai 600028 (2007), Venkat Prabhu's directorial debut, which became a sleeper hit and went on to attain cult status among Tamil audiences. The story continued nearly a decade later with Chennai 600028 II: Second Innings (2016), reuniting most of the original cast — Jai, Shiva, Premji, Aravind Akash, Nithin Sathya and others — alongside newcomer Vaibhav, with Yuvan Shankar Raja returning to compose the music; the film released on 9 December 2016 and was a commercial success. A third part, Chennai 600028 III, has long been rumored and remains a hotly anticipated addition to the franchise for fans of the "Sharks" gang.
