In 1986, he graduated from the Higher Courses of Screenwriters and Directors (the workshop of Gleb Panfilov and Alexander Mitta). Since 1986 - director of the Mosfilm Film Studio. He made his debut in the big cinema in 1990 with the film "Sunset" - a fantasy on the themes of Isaac Babel. The film was shown in the non-competitive program of numerous festivals, as well as at the Berlin Film Festival (participation in the "Forum" program). In 2000, Zeldovich presented his film "Moscow" based on a script written in collaboration with famous russian writer Vladimir Sorokin. The film, which has become an event of Russian cinema, participated in the official program of the Venice Film Festival ("Cinema del Presente" competition program) and many other. The premiere of the film "Target" (2011), also created according to the script in collaboration with Vladimir Sorokin, took place at the Berlin Film Festival (participation in the "Panorama" program).
