Directing
Nícolas Mabilia is a Brazilian film director, screenwriter, and audiovisual producer. He began his journey in cinema with the experimental short film Rabune Somnia (2016), which received recognition from the Festival do Minuto. In 2018, he directed the cult splatter-horror short Gorete, an award-winning production screened at independent film festivals and specialized genre showcases. His filmography also includes the documentary Dayendji – Life as an Immigrant (2024), which portrays the experiences of a Haitian immigrant in southern Brazil, and the documentary series They Are Art (2025), dedicated to the stories of independent female artists and the impact of art within their communities. In 2025, he released Gorete – The Beginning, a prequel set in 1924 that expands the universe of the character Gorete and further reflects his interest in narratives that explore the intersection of the fantastic, memory, and local cultural identities. His work is distinguished by its focus on human stories, aesthetic experimentation, and a strong connection to the places and people it portrays.
